The Big Day! I had such a hard time wedding planning. I’m just going to say it! Pinterest and Instagram is so hard to constantly compare yourself to and TLC’s for weddings growing up does not help with the reality of what your wedding might actually be like.
I did my own hair for my wedding which took longer than I thought. But I had so much fun and loved that I picked an updo since it was quite warm that day. I hired an amazing makeup artist. She did an amazing job executing my makeup vision which was pink and colorful and she was absolutely amazing. I love wearing colorful looks and wanted to have someone else do my makeup but make it feel bridal but it also felt so me at the same time. I knew when planning I wanted this to be an emotional and special experience for more than just me and my husband.
Our wedding date was May 20th 2023. Our 7 year anniversary. The problem was May could be raining and cold or mosquito filled and hot and I didn't know locally what would work as we had a pretty good number of people on our list. There aren’t that many wedding venues in our area and not that many that hold more than 100 guest and not many that are inside.
For the wedding ceremony space, I ended up calling and finding out that the High school theater auditorium was available to rent and that was perfect. Tons of comfortable seats, lighting and sound ran by the high school teacher and some students. We had a couple of different visits and collaborated on a few different things and it was a great experience. They have a projector and screen that comes down so before we walked out we played a slide show of 7 years worth of memories of Levi and I which got a lot of peoples emotions going and I wanted to show how big this moment was how much has happened and how special this day was to the both of us for people who got to see us through most of it or family who lives farther away and hadn’t gotten to see us as frequent.
The other thing I loved about our wedding was that since it was a theater there were two aisles not one. So our family’s walked out at the same time down and to the front our wedding party was on each side and walked down in their pair. And then when it came to my Husband and I we came out just the two of us and got to take our first look together at the back. We had asked all our guest to remain seated so every one could see. And I got to walk down to the stage with my husband and met him down at the front and walk up the steps together.
Our wedding reception was where I put more of the decorating efforts to. I left the ceremony very clean with just the black and red curtains. The reception was green table clothes and I thrifted glassware, brass and sliver items vases, books and more, so every table was something different. Our flowers were done by my husband’s aunt, and we went with blush tones in roses carnations and some stalk flowers. I loved that the roses and carnations petals felt a lot like my dresses layers. We had brought in some painted bookshelves dressers and a buffet table from my own house and my mothers to use in the space which was just a hall center really. But I felt like it added to the vibe I was trying to achieve. Our cake was one of our favorites Carrot cake from the Rocket Bakery so we can go get a slice whenever we need to celebrate.
We did the decades dance where all couples came to the dance floor and the couple who had been married the longest is who we gave the bouquet to. We both loved dancing so we danced and visited most of the night and think everyone had a really nice time. As much as I would have loved to keep wearing my red sparkly Betsy Johnson Boots I switched into some Vans towards the end of the night so I could keep dancing.
